One 2024 Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals participant, whose group included those from the USA and France, as well as the UK, knew of co-founder Sophie Carvin and her work, and saw a post on LinkedIn about the programme which intrigued her.
A coach with a working background in human resources, she said: “Because of its focus on wellbeing and thriving in mid life, it sounded interesting, and I was also personally curious about its framework in Positive Intelligence, as I have a coaching friend that uses the tool.
“I was very happy with the course, the materials, and the effort the trainers put in. I don’t regret signing up for it or spending the money on it, but it hasn’t quite done what I expected it to, and that’s much more about me."
Obviously I had been hoping for the magic wand - a total fix for everything overnight and while I didn’t get that, I have generally gained enough to feel I am a slightly different person; possibly a slightly happier person because of having had quality contact with really 10 such lovely people. I think I am a work in progress.
“Anybody that signs up for a course like this, or signs up to coaching to some extent has an itch that needs scratching; you would expect everyone that signed up was being troubled by something. The skill of the Mid Life Thriving team was that they flushed those people out and helped them at their own level and in their own way.
“Speaking personally, from a nutritional and lifestyle perspective, with hindsight I’ve learned that no course is going to ‘fix’ that for me. Erica picked that up really quickly with an intuitive comment in our WhatsApp group, which was just right on the money. I was really impressed by that.
“Erica, Aaron and Sophie are obviously three very different people and that’s good. What they were superbly good at was telling us stuff and then repeating it, so the whole course built. I am a detailed note-taker and to some extent the material was so well-structured I probably didn’t need to be, and that’s amazing for consolidating the learning.
“I definitely didn’t join the programme with both personal and professional or organisational development in mind. I have undoubtedly taken things away that will be useful, but it was never my intention to use the course for work. The team is very professional and very capable and you can’t help but learn. And since the course ended I’ve reflected on what worked well for me and what worked less well. I’ve learned from that, which is one of the reasons I’m very happy to have taken part.
“I can’t say that Mid Life Thriving changed my life, but actually some of the people in the group have had major life shifts, so I would recommend it to anyone who felt they would benefit from it.”
