Nutritional Therapist Sylvie Morrève, a self-confessed sceptic, joined Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals despite feeling a little unsure what she had signed up to. Hoping to gain professional insight she could apply to her work as a nutritionist, she got more than she bargained for when she experienced a “wow moment” that she feels has had a positive impact on her everyday life. 

Sylvie said: “It was a fantastic experience. The programme has helped me realise that we often judge ourselves. I can now recognise those thoughts and control them, using the new tools that I learnt.” 

She explained: “The course helps us understand some of our thoughts and behaviours that hold us back, the saboteurs, and by giving them specific names we can acknowledge them and apply different techniques that we learnt through the course to turn them into something positive. This was very useful; actually, eye-opening in that way. 

“I’m a scientist, so I’m sceptical by nature, but the fact that the course is backed by science was reassuring to me. As a nutritionist, supporting clients in changing habits fits very well with my work, so what I learned will be really useful to me professionally. It’s a very good programme.” 

One of the aspects of Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals that Sylvie found particularly insightful is the fact it uses Positive Intelligence as a framework. 

Upon enrolling on Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals, all participants are given access to the Positive Intelligence app, and Sylvie found this valuable during her first few weeks as part of the group. 

She said: “I hadn’t been on any of the regular insights taster sessions the team offers before signing up, so I came out of my first session with my group of fellow learners thinking they are a lovely bunch of people, and there is a nice atmosphere, but I still have no idea what this is all about! So, the app was helpful in understanding the programme, giving lots of guidance and background information.” 

Although Sylvie said she lost motivation to engage daily with the app about halfway through the 13-week course, which is made up of an hour-long group seminar session on Zoom each week, together with a daily check-in on a private WhatsApp group, and short tasks and videos to be completed whenever is convenient, she did eventually return to it, as she found the built-in audiobook invaluable to her learning. 

She went on: “Since our group meetings ended, I have stopped using the app regularly, but the concepts learned on Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals are still very present with me. I’d say overall it’s been a great experience, with some great learnings alongside some great people. 

“For some group members it can be a life-changing experience – and what each group member brings is very much part of it. Our weekly group sessions were instrumental in creating a team spirit to commit, acknowledge, encourage and support one another. Checking-in each day on WhatsApp also kept me feel enthusiastic and motivated, and the weekly videos were well-constructed and contained high quality information.” 

Sylvie had set aside around five hours a week for her development while part of Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals, and is now a member of the Mid Life Thriving Academy, which offers regular opportunities to continue learning, with deeper dives into different elements of wellbeing, as well as face-to-face meet ups. 

She added: “The trainers – Sophie, Erica and Aaron work well together, as they each have different skills to bring to the course. There was a lot to learn, but the regular quizzes tickled the brain, and helped review the information in a fun way. 

“I’ve definitely changed some of my behaviours around procrastination since taking part in the programme, but the biggest takeaway for me was understanding that we can create new neural pathways through this work, that rewire our brain and help us change our habits – that was a ‘wow’ moment for me.
