Alex Knight is an engineer that runs her own non-profit social enterprise.
She said of her experience as part of Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals: “Sophie and Erica are just so good at creating an inclusive environment that is so welcoming and open for everybody to feel comfortable right from the get-go and I think that is a huge strength of theirs.
“Everybody is welcome regardless of your background, your gender, your experiences, your age and we were such a diverse group in terms of age, location, experience, and the sectors people work in.
“I think the way I would describe it is gentle transformation - nurturing transformation; I’ve tried to do a lot of things in the past that have been quite heavy-hitting, using really bold, extrovert people to try and help me with the things I’m working on, and I found Sophie and Erica’s style really nurturing. Gentle fostering of empowerment is the thing that actually worked, that actually did change my approach to being able to solve my goals myself.
Don’t put yourself at the back of the queue
“I had already done Positive Intelligence (PQ) training before, but doing Mid Life Thriving Fundamentals really reinforced the PQ methodology. And having that within a group coaching approach as well, I learnt so much from listening to other people and how they were dealing with their own challenges, thinking that I need to be kinder to myself. Other people on the programme helped me to see I didn’t have such a mountain to climb. I was already part of the way there. Hearing that come from essentially total strangers and not people I was paying to help me feel better - that really helped me. And because it was a gentle approach, it stuck, every step of the way.
“I’m already there with the goal that I thought I was so far away from. But in that, sort of softening the pressure on myself has meant that I am able to even exceed where I was hoping to get to with the goals. I mean, I would still describe my life as full, but I realise and I recognise that I have control over that. So, I feel I’m now able to say no to things, set boundaries, and just be kind to myself, chill out a bit more, not put so much pressure on myself to be perfect all the time.
“It was definitely the tools and techniques with the programme that helped me with that for sure, but I also think just having the people in the group validating where you’re at already and giving you that reassurance that you’re already there, but for me, Sophie’s absolutely calm and collected and kind of peaceful, tranquil way of being was crucial. I felt like I was almost absorbing that in every session and thinking, this is my role model - I want to be like Sophie. It just really helped.”
Knowledge is power
“The combination of nutrition and life coaching, as well as PQ tools and techniques, it just worked. It was a great combination. I’ve paid a lot more money for other coaching programmes and this one for me has been particularly effective. I think it really is good value for money, especially with the range of expertise that you get. It’s kind of like everything you need to thrive, as it says in the title, so I think it’s definitely worth it and actually, this is your one life, so don’t wait to hope you feel better when x, y, z is done, you know.
“Invest in yourself now. That’s the approach I take now but it’s taken me a long time to realise that it’s worth investing in myself, for sure.”
Attitude and gratitude
“I don’t think Sophie and Erica realise how good they are because they’re so humble and down to earth. That’s the thing that works so well. It’s definitely my mindset that has changed. It’s definitely gratitude and attitude to life, and being kinder to myself.
“To sum up my experience in a word - I think peace - that is such an apt word because it helps you be more in the present - doing the PQ exercises brings you back to the present instantly, and because you know then that you are reducing your stress, you can get back in control and realise you do have a choice.
“I think I definitely appreciate my life, and all the little things more, but I think it’s actually made me better at my job and made me a better parent as well, and probably a better friend and a better sister and a better wife and all of the things because everything is connected.”
“Online sessions worked so well for me because my main worry was that I was too busy to do the programme, so, knowing that it just needed you to log on for an hour, do it, and then the rest of it was flexible, and to be able to go for a walk whilst on the call or whatever - the flexibility really worked for me.”
“I think it’s such a good programme and more people will really benefit from it.”
